So, Eric and I have always felt extremely lucky with the parents that we have. They've always been supportive, doting and protective. Admittedly, both us of have lived a pretty charmed life. While we've known them as parents for so long, to see them all as grandparents is so fun for both of us. Of course we knew Lyla would be spoiled endlessly, but the support they gave us even before she was born was tremendous.
For the weeks leading up to Lyla's birth, while I was on bedrest, my parents came over every weekend, if not more, to help around the house. They made meals for us, helped put together Lyla's room, cleaned my house and did my laundry. Eric's parents even put in a brand new hot water tank (which broke on the morning I was put in the hospital the first time) for us.
Once Lyla was born, my parents did their best to make sure we were all taken care of. They would come over each day and make sure Eric and I got in a nap. When Eric went back to work, my mom took a week off and spent every day here to help out. We even had a sleepover one night because the Blizzard of 2011 hit. As the power flicked on and off, mom was there to keep me calm when I started freaking out about having no power with a seven day old at home. While she was there, mom once again made meals for us, cleaned our house and washed our laundry (which included multiple baby loads a day). Then each night my dad would come over for a nice family dinner. It was so great to have them both there to comfort me when the "new mom" meltdowns hit. So often in those first few weeks Eric and I would say that we would have never made it without our parents. Those first couple weeks are so chaotic and such a whirlwind, but we are so lucky to have them to get us through. It makes me glad I never made the move to LA all those years ago!
